What’s the social value of sport and physical activity in Hampshire and the Isle of Wight?

Recent findings show the social value of physical activity in Hampshire and the Isle of Wight could be as high as £3.9Billion.

The figures follow the October 2024 report from Sport England announcing the overall social value of community sport and physical activity across England was £107.2 billion in 2022/23.

The figure consists of a ‘primary’ value placed on the wellbeing of adults, children and young people taking part and volunteering in sport and physical activity and a ‘secondary’ value that calculates the wider savings to the health and social care system a year

Numbers have been broken down by local council and authority area so individuals and organisations can discover the social value of taking part or volunteering in sport and physical activity where they live and work.

The research makes a clear case for physical activity and the We Can Be Active Strategy playing a major role in the health and wellbeing of local people.

Partners in the strategy have the potential to not only prevent illness and relieve NHS pressure, but create happier, healthier local communities in Hampshire and the Isle of Wight.
