Hampshire and the Isle of Wight

We work across the whole of Hampshire and the Isle of Wight. But creating more active communities isn’t something we can achieve on our own. That’s why we work with lots of different organisations, including local authorities, health and care environments, the voluntary sector and activity providers.

It’s why we also work with and within communities. Listening to what they have to say and trying to give voice to less active members. This is what led us to the We Can Be Active Strategy launched in 2021.

We Can Be Active Strategy

The We Can Be Active Strategy has been adopted by local authorities, and organisations across Hampshire and the Isle of Wight.

The strategy can be used by anyone sharing an ambition to create happier, healthier and more active communities.

Co-created with residents, they’ve told us what it is they need to move more. The resulting strategy is themed around five core elements

  1. Creating Positive early experiences for our children and young people.
  2. Providing Opportunities that meet our needs and interests and are accessible and easy to find.
  3. Places and travel routes where we all feel safe and are encouraged to be active.
  4. Supporting to help us get started or keep moving when we feel that we can’t do it alone.
  5. We need Bold leaders working together to create happier and healthier communities.

Working in Place

Some places in our region have higher inactivity rates than others. People living in these places often experience the biggest health inequalities and have less access to opportunities. We’re guided by insight and data from Sport England on where these places are. In these places we work alongside communities, and local organisations to find out what they need to help them to move more and support them to make it happen.
