Please join us in welcoming Doctor Paul O’Halloran as the new Chair of Trustees for Energise Me.
Paul has been with us as a trustee since 2018, sharing his knowledge, expertise and passion for physical activity.
As a local GP, he’s seen first-hand the role that moving more can have in improving both physical and mental health.
Paul’s looking forward to stepping into the role, saying “I’ve witnessed the transformative power of physical activity in the prevention and treatment of so many physical and mental health conditions. I’m looking forward to advocating for and supporting the Energise Me team in their life changing work.”
Paul steps in to take over from Jon Monkom, who’s completed an eight-year term as Chair and has help steer the charity as a trustee since it was founded in 2016.
Chief Executive Julie Amies said “A huge thank you to Jon, who has provided invaluable support and guidance in his role as Chair over the past six years. He’s seen us through some big milestones as a charity, including the launch of the We Can Be Active Strategy – an ambitious approach as we refocussed to tackling inactivity and inequalities.
“Now as we enter another exciting period I’m looking forward to working closely with Paul, and the experience and knowledge he brings, especially as we work to tackle health inequalities and create happier and healthier communities.”
Alongside Paul’s move to Chair, the Charity has welcomed four new trustees, bringing a wealth of different experiences.
Doctor Heather Mitchell brings over fifteen years’ experience of working in senior leadership roles within the NHS and has experience in working in partnership with communities to support their health and well-being. For Heather physical activity means family time, with both her and her children spending time on the sports pitch.
Mike Harris, former chief executive of Southampton City Council will be supporting the team with his strategic insight on connecting with the public sector. He’ll also be bringing his passion for water-based activity, a keen swimmer he’s currently training to swim the English Channel.
Helen Brooker brings experience in both the financial and healthcare sectors to her role as trustee. She is passionate about making healthcare more accessible to everyone and measuring social impact. A keen runner, she’s a founding member of her local running cub and has seen first-hand the benefits of physical activity for both mental and physical wellbeing.
Tim Lander is a qualified chartered accountant, and an experienced non-executive director. Tim is passionate about helping people to move more. He has been junior chair of Winchester Hockey Club for the last 5 years during which time he has led the club to certification as an England Hockey Talent Centre and established a thriving outreach programme in the local community.
