Accessible & Inclusive Futures – LGBTQ+ Inclusion
Free digital session to support attendees to build understanding and confidence around LGBTQ+ inclusion.
Session Purpose:
Sport England and Inclusive Employers are hosting this session to build knowledge, confidence, and accountability around LGBTQ+ inclusion in sport and physical activity. It will explore how everyday language, behaviours, and environment design can either affirm LGBTQ+ people or act as barriers to participation and belonging. The session will empower attendees to move beyond awareness into action — helping them actively contribute to environments where LGBTQ+ people feel safe, respected, and able to thrive.
Aims:
Supporting partners across the sport and physical activity landscape to:
- Understand key LGBTQ+ terminology, identities, and concepts, and why language and visibility matter.
- Recognise common barriers to LGBTQ+ inclusion in sport and physical activity settings.
- Explore the impact of heteronormative assumptions, stereotypes, and silence on engagement and wellbeing.
- Understand the role of allies and leaders in creating inclusive cultures.
This session will be facilitated by Inclusive Employers as a space where all participants (NGBs, Active Partnerships, community organisations etc.) can discuss, ask questions, problem solve together about how they will create real change in their area and develop actions to take away.
