Trail Tale Adventures for New Forest Families

Two new, free family walking trails have arrived in the New Forest just in time for families to enjoy over the summer holidays.

About Trail Tale

Trail Tales are here to help you get outside and explore your neighborhood by following a story co-written by local children. It’s a great way for you and your family to get active and enjoy reading together, all while having fun and making memories.

They are designed so you can pick a day and time of your choosing, because we know how jam-packed routines can get!

Both trails have been written and illustrated by well-known local author and illustrator, Simon Chadwick.

The Weird Wildlife Trail

Join April and Finn as they follow the mysterious Quoot on a wildlife adventure to discover Forest Front’s hidden creatures!

The ‘Weird Wildlife’ Trail in Dibden Purleiu will encourage you to spot various wildlife and plants through a series of written and physical challenges along the way.

The trail takes around an hour, but that could change depending on your pace. It is mostly flat and is pushchair friendly. It’s fun for all ages!

Trail starting point: This story starts near Hardley Skatepark in Forest Front Nature Reserve, SO45 3PQ

Download the booklet below or pick up a physical copy at Fawley Parish Offices (Gang Warily), Hythe and Dibden Parish Offices (The Grove) or Hythe Library.

The trail takes around an hour and a half, but that could change depending on your pace.

It is not suitable for pushchairs or wheelchairs.

Where To Find More Story Trails

This Work

This ‘Weird Wildlife’ Trail and the ‘Clueless Elf’ Trail were funded as part of our Place in Focus work, funded by Sport England Place Universal Offer and created in partnership with New Forest District Council.
