Five Years of We Can Be Active

2026 marks five years of the We Can be Active Strategy for Hampshire and the Isle of Wight. A milestone made possible by the passion, commitment, and collaboration of people and organisations working towards a happier healthier future for local people. As we celebrate how far we’ve come, we’re also taking stock of what’s changing, what we’re learning, and where we’re collectively making the biggest difference.

We don’t want to give too much away… but you’ll find we’re on the right track and real change is happening for people using the strategy, and the people they are working to support.

In the report you’ll find

  • A new framework for understanding the impact of We Can Be Active
  • The foundations of change being created
  • Key learnings we can use in the next five years
  • Active Lives data and trends since the strategy launched
  • The impact for each goal of the Strategy
  • The challenges that still exist

Where did the Evidence Come From?

The impact report is based on 165 pieces evidence from 48 different people and organisations working across Hampshire and the Isle of Wight.

Evidence was shared with Energise Me over the last 5 years through We Can Be Active Wins, blogs, case studies, surveys, reports and videos. Further evidence was submitted through an open call for evidence in March 2026. We also held 5 focus groups where people could share their observations on the Strategy’s impact so far.

We worked with external evaluators, 21 Artists,  who coded all the evidence and helped us to understand the impact and insight you see in the report.
