Reduce absenteeism and improve productivity at work.

The theme of this year’s Mental Health Awareness Week is ‘Action’. As workplaces, we have a key impact on employees’ wellbeing. Here are some of the things Energise Me introduced to positively support our team.
We spend a lot of time at work, so creating environments where people feel supported, connected and able to do their best matters.
When employees feel mentally and emotionally well, they are more focused, resilient and productive.
We appointed a Mental Health First Aider, Sue, within the team.
Having someone trained and approachable has helped create a culture where conversations around mental health feel more normal and supported. Having someone there to talk to, when and if needed, means that the team always have someone to turn to.
Connecting with colleagues is a very important part of creating a supportive workplace. That’s why our Head of Marketing and Communications, Debbie, introduced Coffee Roulette.
Once a month, colleagues are randomly paired together for 30 minutes to go for a walk and have a catch-up. Conversations can be about work, life, hobbies – whatever people want to talk about. There’s no pressure, and staff can opt in or out when they like.
It’s a great way to embed physical activity into your culture, take a break from screens and connect with colleagues.
Our Mental Health First Aider also introduced a monthly “Mindful Lunchtime” session. This is a guided 30-minute meditation open to the whole team.
For some people it’s a chance to take a breather during a busy day. For others, it’s an opportunity to try mindfulness for the first time.
Not everyone joins every session and that’s completely fine. The important thing is creating opportunities for people to pause and prioritise their wellbeing if they want to.
We wanted to make sure our team felt supported to look after themselves, both inside and outside of work. So, we introduced Unum’s health and wellbeing app, Help@Hand.
With this app, staff and their eligible family members can access a range of health and wellbeing services whenever they need it. This includes mental health support, unlimited GP appointments and lifestyle coaching to name a few!
We’re also proud to be a flexible working organisation that supports staff to be active during the day where possible.
Physical activity can have a huge impact on mental wellbeing, and sometimes flexible working can help make attending those activities more accessible.
Over the years, team members have used flexibility in different ways, from attending a Friday morning yoga class to playing hockey on a Tuesday lunchtime to walking the dog at lunch.
Not everything you try will suit everyone in the team. But creating a culture that prioritises well-being will have a positive impact at your organisation.
These are the things that are currently working at Energise Me, but they may not be right for you. So, head over to either our Workplace Wellbeing Toolkit for more ideas or Mind’s Mental Health Support and Wellbeing in The Workplace resource. As this is Mental Health Awareness Week, we’re encouraging organisations across Hampshire and Isle of Wight to think about the steps they can take to better support their team.
