Support To Get Started: Movement Is For Everyone

November 18 @ 10:30 am - 12:00 pm
Free
How can we create inclusive opportunities in every setting for every body, every ability and every community?

Join the Hampshire and Isle of Wight network of organisations that support people living with long-term health conditions to be active.

The Support To Get Started Network meets quarterly to connect and share ideas with other professionals working to help those with long-term health conditions to be active, and gain valuable insights that can inform your work.

This session will have a key theme around inclusivity, including:

  • Why it’s important to create inclusive and accessible opportunities
  • Hear from local projects and approaches that organisations have implemented
  • Gain insights to how services can ensure they are inclusive, accessible, and responsive to the needs of the diverse communities they engage with.

Who is this event for?

This event is for organisations delivering services across Hampshire and the Isle of Wight, that are or would like to support members of the community living with a long-term health condition.

Whether you’re from a local authority, a leisure or community group, a health charity, an NHS professional, volunteer or activity provider, this event is for you.

Why attend?

According to Sport England, 69% of people living with long-term health conditions would like to be more active. We know that physical activity benefits our hearts, bodies and minds, and together, we can help others reap those benefits.

What will you get out of it?

  • Learning that you can apply and action in your own work
  • Inspiration and insight from guest speakers who are working locally to support people with long term health conditions to overcome barriers to being active
  • The chance to ask questions and network with those working in a similar capacity

We will be joined by guest speakers from:

  • Horizon Havant
  • Hampshire FA
  • Activity Alliance

The We Can Be Active Strategy

The We Can Be Active strategy states that we need opportunities that meet our needs and interests that are accessible and easy to find. And there are plenty of incredible organisations who are helping those with long-term health conditions to get active in a way that suits them.

Keep making a difference to people’s lives by learning from the works of others, expanding your knowledge on barriers that some may face and examples on how they can be overcome.
