Advertising Your Leisure Centre Sessions On The Activity Finder

On the Hampshire and the Isle of Wight activity finder, local residents can search for sessions near them that will inspire them to move more, searching by ability, facilities, cost and more. Over 1,000 sessions are listed, and it couldn’t be simpler for yours to be included tooit’s often just the click of a button.

According to Active Lives data, 22% of residents across Hampshire and the Isle of Wight are doing less than 30 minutes of physical activity a week.  The National Health Services advises 150 minutes of moderate intensity activity for adults. The internet is overwhelmed with information and websites that can be tricky to find and to trust. During the We Can Be Active consultation, people told us they wanted a single place to look for physical activities.

Now, by opening your data, it is easier than ever to reach new customers and give them the information they need to take an action.

What Does Opening Your Data Mean?

The activity finder is populated by Open Data. This is data that anyone can access, use and share. In the physical activity sector, activity providers open their systems to share details of their sessions, such as date, times, available facilities or the difficulty level of a class. This system is known as Open Active. No personal information is shared, and booking is still completed via your website or normal route. It is free additional marketing for your business.

We ask providers to share information like this in one place to help people find the right activities for them and help get communities active.

How Does It Work?

Open Active provides a standardised format to publish and use data. When you use an Open Active enabled booking or management system, you can choose to publish some or all of your facility’s classes. Depending on which system provider you use, will affect the fee for opening your data.

Why Open Your Data?

Put Simply, it’s low effort and high reward! Some Open Active users have reported a 10-25% increase in attendance.

The data you already collect and store on your own database is shared via Open Active at the click of a button.

The activity finder is free for the public to use. Energise Me host an array of campaigns throughout the year to promote this tool to new audiences. And the more places your sessions can be found, the more people you will reach.

In addition to being listed on the Hampshire and Isle of Wight activity finder your sessions could also be listed on National Governing Bodies’ club finders or activity finders for national campaigns like This Girl Can, and Change for Life.  Even more free exposure!

Why not read some case studies on how Open Data has improved participation numbers.
