Netball Head Coach (University of Portsmouth)

The University of Portsmouth Netball Club has 4 competitive teams for the 2024-25 BUCS season. They are looking for an experienced, qualified coach to lead high quality training sessions, and manage the match day squads for the season September 2024 – April 2025.

Salary: £20 – £30/hour for training depending on qualifications and experience. Home and Away match day fee to be discussed at interview.

Training sessions will take place on Monday evenings (8.30pm – 10.30pm TBC) at Ravelin Sports Centre, Cambridge Road, Portsmouth.

Matches take place on Wednesday afternoons (times and locations vary), with transport provided. Please note that in the Premier 2 league, the 1st team could be travelling as far as Bath and Cardiff on an ‘away’ fixture.

Main Responsibilities

The successful applicant will:

  • Collaborate with the student club committee to deliver trials at the start of the season
  • Lead on the planning, delivery and evaluation of weekly training sessions, focusing on technical and tactical elements specific to each team
  • Select the match day squads, communicating with players and team captains
  • Attend fixtures and manage the match day squads
  • Lead on performance team meetings where relevant, working with other support service staff to set goals, expectations and analyse results
  • Attend club committee meetings where relevant
  • Promote the club’s philosophy to all members
  • Adhere to the University’s Code of Conduct

The successful applicant will work with other coaching staff, performance analysts, and a sports psychologist to build a performance environment.

Person Specification

Skills required for this role:

  • Essential: England Netball Level 3 coaching qualification (or Level 2 with extensive coaching experience)
  • Essential: Excellent organisation skills
  • Essential: Excellent communication skills
  • Desirable: An understanding of netball in the higher education sector
  • Desirable: Previous competitive playing experience
