New partnership to boost health and happiness of mums in Bordon
Building on the success of our This Mum Can initiatives around the county, we’ve teamed up with Everyone Active to support young families in Bordon.
Recent consultations with NCT mum and baby groups, Radian Housing groups and Barnardo’s revealed that young mums in Bordon want to be more active. They want to be fitter, improve their mental wellbeing and have the chance to socialise with other mums.
Fear of judgement, limited access to transport and lack of childcare were all playing a part in preventing them from getting out there.
In partnership with Everyone Active, we’re launching two new This Mum Can programmes in September to support Bordon mums to get moving.
Our Project Officer Nikki is looking forward to the launch:
“There are many barriers preventing young families from getting active. We hope this project can reduce these and offer the chance for mums to try something new or support them to get back to being regularly physically active.”
A 12-week mum and baby swimming confidence programme at Mill Chase Leisure Centre will help young families splash into fitness without fear of judgement.
Meanwhile, families who aren’t able to get transport to the leisure centre can enjoy a 12-week mum and baby yoga programme at Mustangs Community Centre. Both opportunities respond directly to parents’ feedback and will provide valuable opportunities to socialise with other mums.
Marie Baxter, Sport Development & Physical Activity Manager said:
“Everyone Active is committed to providing all parts of the community with opportunities to engage in physical activity. This project will provide social contact and physical activity for new mums in the area whilst breaking down the barriers that limit what is accessible to them. We also plan to make sure the activity is sustainable for the future. Working with community groups is high on our list of priorities and I myself am hoping to set up and provide more activities for the wider community of Whitehill and Bordon, making it a complete ‘Healthy Town’.”
The new programmes in Bordon are part of our This Mum Can initiative and charitable mission to build happier, healthier and stronger communities across Hampshire and the Isle of Wight.
Funded by Public Health Hampshire and Sport England, we’ve already set up This Mum Can initiatives in Aldershot, Basingstoke and Andover with local partners. Further groups in Winchester, Gosport and Havant will be launched in the coming months.
