New celebratory week to support Hampshire and Isle of Wight students’ wellbeing

Date: 1 December 2021   Author: Energise Me

We Can Week is a celebration that aims to increase children’s understanding of their physical and mental well-being. The week being held 14th – 18th February hopes to help schools in Hampshire and the Isle of Wight support children and young people.

Over 57% of Children across Hampshire and the Isle of Wight are doing less than the recommended 60 minutes of physical activity a day. One in six children aged 5-16 years in 2020 were identified as having a probable mental health concern. Children spend over six hours a day in school, giving schools a vital opportunity to shape positive behaviours of healthy eating, physical activity and wellness.

#WeCanWeek is a partnership between multiple organisations within Hampshire and the Isle of Wight coordinated by Energise Me. Partners have included those from local councils, Public Health, Hampshire SGO’s , Southern NHS Health and other local organisations. We have come together to share and produce resources that will be available for the week and beyond.

About the week

We Can Week is taking place between 14th-18th February 2022. The week has been divided into five key themed days that will support children’s physical and mental well-being. Within each day, resources will be available for teachers and families to encourage children to explore and understand the five themes.

Schools can use these resources during the school day, as activities to be sent home or bursts between lessons. Schools can use these resources throughout the week, and days can be mixed up or repeated at any time.

The five themes are:

Mindful Monday

Exploring emotions and learning how to process, seek support and look after our mental well-being.

Tasty Tuesday

Supporting children to access and enjoy healthy eating opportunities and understand the importance of a healthy diet.

Well-being Wednesday

Exploring the positive effects of being active outdoors and prioritising positive behaviours.

Together Thursday

Exploring the benefits of being connected to each other and understanding the importance of inclusivity.

Physical Activity Friday

Highlighting the importance of building physical activity into our daily routines, how to achieve this, and the benefits of being physically active.

Commit to taking part in #WeCanWeek

Commit to taking part in #WeCanWeek and receive early access to the resources.

All schools that commit to We Can Week will be entered into a prize draw, for the chance to win one of five incredible opportunities that fit with the themes of the week.
