Delme Mix Ups were unbeaten at the recent End of Summer Back to Netball festival, taking home the winners’ medals for the first time since they were formed 3 years ago.

The annual festival saw Back to Netball teams from around Hampshire meet up for a friendly tournament, hosted by England Netball, at Portsmouth High School. It marked the end of a successful summer season for England Netball Community Coach Debbie Laycock. She has organised several Back to Netball tournaments in recent months, including a workplace competition, raising over £500 for Cancer Research UK.

Laycock said:

“The End of Summer festival is always a little bittersweet as it signifies the end of our tournament season for Back to Netball, but it’s also a great celebration and gives everyone a chance to get together, which is one of the strengths of the Back to Netball programme.”

Hotshots from Gosport took the runners up spot, narrowly edging out Swanmore. Sophie Andrews, Goal Attack for Ark Dickens, was voted as Player of the tournament by the volunteer umpires.

Emma Heaysman from Delme, an original member of the team which started out as a Mums Back to Netball session at Castle School in Portchester said:

“This is the first time we’ve won a Back to Netball festival. They’re always great fun. Winning is definitely not everything but as the medals were pink and sparkly this time we were even more thrilled!”

Debbie Laycock said:

“Delme Mix Ups were worthy winners, remaining unbeaten throughout the day. They also showed great team spirit and what always really impresses me with any Delme Diamonds team is they play with the Back to Netball spirit. I was delighted to hand over the winners’ medals!”

Laycock added:

“As ever these festivals couldn’t go ahead without the support of some fabulous volunteers, organisers and umpires. Thanks to all who helped at the latest festival, especially those who were roped in at the last minute. It really is appreciated!”
