About this Event

This two-part training will explore some of the key issues and challenges experienced by children and young people who are Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Trans or Unsure (LGBTU+) of their sexual orientation and/or gender identity. Together we will examine how these issues may impact their mental health, emotional and social wellbeing, and engagement in sports and physical activity.

The training will explore in practical terms how best to support LGBTU+ children and young people and ways to make organisations safer spaces and more LGBTU+ inclusive.

By the end of the training, participants will have gained more knowledge of the issues and will have greater confidence in supporting and working with LGBTU+ children and young people, whatever their particular role.

In part two we will explore:

  • How to identify and challenge homophobic, biphobic and transphobic bullying, insults and language.
  • How to improve LGBTU+ inclusion and make your organisation an LGBTU+ safer space.
  • How to identify and address potential barriers to engagement in sports and physical activity for LGBTU+ young people
  • Relevant legislation and how this applies to an organisation/school providing services.
