Sarah is the overall English Champion, finished 3rd at the Super-G and 5th at the Super Combined in Trofeu Borrufa.
What are your targets for 2017 and beyond?
I have one race left this season, the Children’s British Championships, I hope to reclaim the title of overall champion. Next season I move up to the FIS category and hope to become U18 British and English Champion. In 2019 I aim to be selected for European Youth Olympics with a top 10 finish.
How did you get in to your sport? How were you introduced?
I started skiing on family ski holidays around the age of 4 and my love for it grew bigger and bigger. At 7 years old I joined Aldershot dry slope before starting to race on snow with an academy named BSA. After a year of racing on snow I moved teams to Ambition Racing which has natured me into a better skier and hopefully will keep doing so.
What is the biggest challenge you have faced in your sport? How did you overcome it?
Skiing is full of ups and downs and some days or training runs don’t always go to planned. If I have a bad or slow run I have to make sure I don’t get annoyed at myself and instead listen to my coach and change my approach for the next run. Another challenge is having the confidence to spring back from a crash and to keep wanting to go fast.
What are your top tips for aspiring athletes?
I think its about loving your sport and wanting to do it better than anyone else. I am always striving to be first up the lift and last down off the mountain, every run I make sure is a good one and therefore the more the better.
Who has most influenced your success – and why how have they done so?
My parents have always been there to support me and it wouldn’t be possible without them. My coach is always pushing me and dealing with my demanding questions to help me be as fast as I can.
How has the Hampshire Talented Athlete Scheme helped you with your sport?
The money given is such a big help because I receive no financial backing and everything from equipment to flights is all at a costly price.
Which 3 words best describe you?
Smiley, Chatty and confident.
