Our Trustees

Energise Me Trustees lead us to achieve our mission and purpose. They make sure we meet our legal duties and excel as a charity.

Our board of trustees brings together individuals with a wide range of skills and expertise. They ask us questions to help us think differently. They make suggestions to move things forward. And they act as a sounding board for ideas.

We aspire to have a diverse group of trustees who are representative of our local community. Our board already exceeds Sport England’s A Code for Sports Governance target. But we know there is more that we can do.

Our trustees are committed to tackling barriers that prevent people of all ages, abilities and backgrounds from enjoying an active lifestyle.

To achieve our goals, we need a board of trustees who are as diverse as the people we're trying to reach.

Who's Who

Jon Monkcom

Chair

Jon is the Chair of Wessex Group and knows a thing or two about how businesses should run. He qualified as a chartered accountant with KPMG and set up the Wessex Group in 1992.

Jon is currently a chair of a couple of arts organisations and has previously been a non-executive director of the Theatre Royal Winchester and a local housing association.

Jon still finds time to play tennis and has completed the Dart River 10k swim 4 times.

Steven Pease

Chair of Finance and Audit

Senior Independent Director and our Safeguarding Lead, Steven is a Chartered Management Accountant and an experienced business consultant. He works with public and private sector clients to implement large change programmes within their organisations.

Steven is an experienced Trustee. He served on the Board of one of the first sports clubs to move to Charitable Incorporated Organisation status. More recently, he has served as a Trustee for a CIO that supports and promotes community participation in healthy recreation and the arts.

A Saints football fan, Steven enjoys watching them play as well as volunteering with their community foundation.

Shakiba Moghadam

Shakiba is the co-owner of Move Training Centre and is currently a Sport Psychology doctoral student and research associate at the University of Portsmouth, where she has graduated with a BSc in Psychology and MSc in Sport and Exercise Psychology. Alongside her studies, Shakiba has competed in amateur boxing at the elite level, and has competed in various adventure ultra-running events. Shakiba is also the co-owner of a training facility in Southampton, called Move Training Centre, and has worked extensively with the community to ensure women over the age of 55+ are involved in physical activity in a safe and welcoming space. Her work with the community aimed to tackle health issues such as arthritis and obesity by means of physical activity.

Shakiba is extremely passionate about helping the asylum seekers and refugee population by engaging them in sports and physical activity. She believes this population requires urgent attention as the sense of displacement can lead to experiencing symptoms of various mental health disorders. Participation in sports and physical activity enables this population to feel part of something, whilst simultaneously meeting new people and becoming familiar with the culture, environment and language of a new country.

Dr Paul O’Halloran

Paul was until 2023 a GP partner, and is now a portfolio GP, living and working in Hampshire. He had been working in Sutton Scotney until 2020, and then had become the senior clinical partner at The Adelaide Medical Centre in Andover, after they handed their contract back to the NHS in 2020. These roles have given him the opportunity to improve the health of his patients. He is a GP trainer and was a GP appraiser.

Paul also continues as the Chair of the Diabetes Programme Board for the Hampshire and Isle of Wight Integrated Care System. Paul hopes to bring health knowledge to the Energise Me board.

In his spare time, he is a keen cyclist and sees the huge health benefits that any activity brings to the lives of all people. If movement were a tablet, we would all be taking it.

He is very keen to support Energise Me in their quest to make people more active.

Selina Russell

Selina built her business, Cheeky Rascals whilst living and working as a new mum in France. The company supplies mums and dads with nursery products from across the globe.

Selina’s expertise and knowledge are widely recognised across the nursery industry. She sits on the board for the Baby Products Association (BPA) and is also part of a European Working Group for Child Safety Standards.

She loves playing squash and also spends time with her family doing lots of outdoor activities – from cycling and surfing to canoeing and skiing.

Zoe Williams

Zoe joined the Royal Navy after college on a quest for adventure but was beset by injury, forcing her to put her ambitions aside and leave after only 4 years. Lacking direction, and having fallen into the common trap of not looking after her health and wellbeing because of injury, she was lost as she embarked on trying to find a new career.

Fortunately, she was able to re-engage in sport and exercise – having been a synchronised swimmer as a child – competing at the Invictus Games in 2016. It was this opportunity that really set her back on the right track. She quickly realised that exercise provided the mental and physical confidence required to establish a new path in life. Zoe now works as a strategic operations manager at a technology company.

Zoe is passionate about helping people realise that injury should not define them. She uses technology and the power of the community to help others reinvigorate their mental, physical, and professional lives.

Simon Lovegrove

Simon is the Vice Principal for Curriculum and Quality at Brockenhurst College. He has worked in further education for 15 years starting as a lecturer in Sport and Exercise Science before moving into senior management. Simon is responsible for the delivery of over 12,000 qualifications annually to over 5,000 students of all ages across Hampshire and Dorset.

Simon has a background in strength, conditioning and personal training having achieved a BSc in Sport and Exercise Science and an MSc in Strength and Conditioning. Before entering education Simon worked in the health and fitness industry and still carries a passion to help improve the health and wellbeing of the wider population.

In his spare time Simon enjoys weight training and spending time with his two daughters.

Kate Kewley

Kate works in local government, with a particular interest in support for young people. Her own personal experience of the importance of physical activity, plus her daily work thinking about how to better support people’s wellbeing, led her to apply to become an Energise Me trustee. Her own wellbeing is vastly improved by walking, running, swimming, and generally throwing herself around.

Natalie Austin

In 2023, I joined the Public Health Specialty training as a registrar – training to be a consultant in public health. I am interested in all portfolios, however, my passion lies with physical activity. Helping to reach disadvantaged communities feel the benefit of being active. I have experience working to strategically embed physical activity into health and social care pathways, and really enjoy doing this.

I wanted to become a trustee of Energise Me in particular as the charity’s mission is very closely aligned to my own passion. Being able to support a charity in the county I live in is also great.

In my spare time, I support my children in their sporting activities. If there is a moment spare, I love to be as active as I can also. I love any team sport, however, due to injury I now ride the peloton and have grown to embrace it!
